Autumn in the Aspens
Hello Everyone -
I hope you are all doing well and have enjoyed this past summer and fall seasons.
Last month, I took a trip to the Colorado Rockies attending a workshop to photograph the state’s Aspens while their brilliant autumn colors were on full display.
Our journey started in Crested Butte (elevation at 8,885 feet above sea level) where we spent our first few days photographing along the Slate River and into the beautiful Aspen groves of Kebler and Ohio Pass. We then traveled south to the San Juan Mountains for a couple of days to photograph the grander scenes of Mount Sneffles, Clear Lake, and the Silver Jack, before capping off our trip with a final morning sunrise shoot at the Painted Wall in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
This trip provided an amazing variety of photographic opportunities, from larger and grand landscapes to the more intimate forest scenes. It seemed as though there was a picture to be taken at every turn. It also gave me an opportunity to try out my new 70-200 mm lens, and to try my hand at some ICM (intentional camera movement) photography. As a bonus, during our travels we experienced several close-up moose 🫎 encounters. What incredibly large and gentle creatures!
Here is a handful of images from the trip. For your viewing pleasure, you may wish to view via an iPad or similar devise. (please click or tap image to see a larger view).
